PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an enhancing agent for refractive index difference useful for a hologram recording material having high sensitivity, high resolution, high diffraction efficiency and high storage property and applicable to a three-dimensional display, a high-density optical recording medium, a holographic optical element or the like, and to provide a hologram recording method. SOLUTION: The enhancing agent for refractive index difference contains inorganic particles. The enhancing agent for refractive index difference adsorbs a refractive index modulating agent expressed by a chemical structural formula of formula (1). In formula (1), X represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; Y represents a divalent connecting group including an alkylene group, an arylene group, -O-, -S-, -N(R1)- or a heterocyclic group; R1 represents a hydrogen atom, alkyl group, alkenyl group, cycloalkyl group, aryl group, heterocyclic group or alkynyl group; L represents a divalent connecting group comprising a combination of any of an alkylene group, arylene group, -O-, -S-, -N(R2)-, -C(=O)-, -S(=O)- and -S(=O)2-; R2 represents a hydrogen atom, alkyl group, alkenyl group, cycloalkyl group, aryl group, heterocyclic group or alkynyl group; Z represents an adsorptive substituent; and m is an integer 0 or 1.
