PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce deposit of residual solid component (combustion chamber deposit) which is solid component of soot and oil residing in the combustion chamber when an engine is operated under a condition of low combustion temperature. SOLUTION: When the ratio of area where combustion temperature is low is high, measures to raise combustion temperature such as reduction of EGR rate, advancement of ignition timing, and raise of cooling water temperature. Even in a state that EGR rate is increased to introduce great quantity of exhaust gas under a condition where an suction air flow control valve 25 is closed and soot or the like tends to reside in the combustion chamber 6, the engine is accurately operated under a condition where combustion chamber deposit does not easily deposit in the combustion chamber 6.
