PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve robustness to image input noise or deformation in pattern matching by detecting a position pointed on a pick-up image through pattern matching using only image data for one frame to thereby reduce the memory capacity and the processing time.

SOLUTION: The image processor comprises a pixel value vertical gradient calculation part 3a/pixel value horizontal gradient calculation part 3b which calculate vertical gradient Sy and horizontal gradient Sx of pixel value, respectively; a gradient direction/non-direction specification part 5 which specifies a gradient direction or a non-direction; a score calculation part 10 which calculates a matching degree from the number of pixels in which a gradient direction contained in a collation area is aligned with a gradient direction in a model pattern and a collation area-model pattern gradient direction matching pattern for each pixel; and a position specification part 11 which specifies a position pointed on the image of an object from the position of a target pixel having the maximum matching degree.
