MOTION DETECTION DEVICE AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion detection device that enables a sufficiently higher operating speed and a lower hardware cost by requiring less operating data than before.

SOLUTION: The motion detection device includes two linear sensors positioned in a nonparallel fashion to detect light source signal data. An arithmetic unit can sequentially determine correlations and motion directions and compute speeds from the light source signal data detected by the two linear sensors to determine the moving direction and speed of the motion detection device relative to a detected surface 9. The sequential detection of light source signal data by the two linear sensors requires less operating data than light source signal detection by an existing surface sensor to enable a sufficiently higher operating speed and a lower hardware cost.
