An apparatus for receiving mobile service data and a control method thereof are provided to perform additional encoding for digital data and transmit the encoded digital data to a mobile receiver system, thereby applying robustness to program information and responding to a fast change of a channel. An apparatus(900) for receiving mobile service data comprises a signal receiving unit(910), a demodulator(920), a de-multiplexer(940), a data decoder(950), a PSI/PSIP(Program and System Information/Program and System Information Protocol) DB(960), an A/V(Audio/Video) decoder(970), a control unit(980), a channel manager(982), a channel map(984), a flash memory(986), a user interface unit(988), a display unit(990), a storage unit(1000), a peripheral device connecting interface unit(1100), and a thumbnail extractor(1200). The signal receiving unit receives a mobile service data packet and a main service data packet. The demodulator demodulates a signal received from the signal receiving unit, and divides the signal into the mobile service data packet and the main service data packet. The de-multiplexer performs the demultiplexing of the signal demodulated by the demodulator into main service data, PSI/PSIP table data related to a main service, mobile service data, and PSI/PSIP table data related to mobile service data. The A/V decoder decodes the demultiplexed audio and video data. The data decoder parses a PSI/PSIP section and records EPG(Electronic Program Guide) information in the PSI/PSIP DB. The channel manager requests the reception of a channel-related information table referring to the channel map and receives a reception result. The PSI/PSIP decoder controls the demultiplexing of the channel-related information table to transmit an A/V and data PID(Packet Identifier) list to the channel manager. The channel manager controls the de-multiplexer directly by using the transmitted A/V PID to control the A/V decoder. The control unit controls a GUI(Graphic User Interface) to display a state of a broadcasting receiver system with an OSD(On Screen Display). The de-multiplexer performs the de-multiplexing of an EIT(Event Information Table) and transmits the EIT to the PSI/PSIP decoder. The PSI/PSIP decoder detects the EIT to acquire information about the mobile service data and program information about the mobile service data. |
