PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chamber-type shield machine which enables the easy removal of mud adhering to a level switch. SOLUTION: In this chamber-type shield machine 1, a pressure regulating chamber 6, which takes in slurry 4 in a cutter chamber 3 from below and the air space 5 of which is formed in its upper portion, is provided in the rear of the cutter chamber 3 which is formed in the front of a shield machine body 2. The chamber-type shield machine 1 performs excavation by performing control so that earth pressure in the cutter chamber 3 can be set as earth pressure of a cutting face, while regulating the pressure of the air space 5 so that a level of the slurry in the pressure regulating chamber 6 can be set constant. A plurality of level switches 22 for detecting the level of the slurry 4 are vertically juxtaposed in the pressure regulating chamber 6.
