PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic rotary encoder with its rotation-angle detection accuracy prevented from lowering against variation in environmental temperature. SOLUTION: The encoder includes a gap correction plate 140 fixed to a magnetic sensor 120 and to a housing 130. The material of the correction plate 140 and its shape are selected so as to negate size variation in a gap 122 between a magnetic pattern 111 and the magnetic sensor, with the size variation caused by linear expansion/deformation of a magnetic drum 110, the magnetic sensor, and the housing.
