PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogel which is composed of a water-soluble polysiloxane and is sufficient in terms of mechanical strength, durability, flame retardance, etc., and a method for preparing the same. SOLUTION: The hydrogel contains water and the crosslinked polysiloxane having an ammonium ion, provided that the crosslinked polysiloxane is a polymer essentially comprising a unit represented by formula (1): NH<SB>2</SB>(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>3</SB>SiR<SP>1</SP><SB>n</SB>(OR<SP>2</SP>)<SB>3-n</SB>(wherein R<SP>1</SP>is an alkyl group; R<SP>2</SP>is hydrogen or an alkyl group; and n is 0 or 1), which is derived from 3-aminopropylalkoxysilane. At least some of amino terminal moieties in the unit are subjected to carbonyl-crosslinking, and the rest of the amino terminal moieties are quaternized. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
