PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a solubilized keratin of high utility value easily with high yield while suppressing discoloration and smelling occurring in the hydrolysis of keratin. SOLUTION: The method for producing the solubilized keratin having an average molecular weight of 8,000-13,000 (gel filtration method) is characterized in that it comprises making feather into a hydrated state of a water content of 20-80%, then performing the hydrolyzing process in an alkali solution of 0.1-0.8 mol/L for 0.1-16 hours at 80-120°C, subsequently neutralizing this processed liquid, and extracting a keratin resolvent from the supernatant.
