<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery which has a wide range of non-aqueous solvent that can be used, and has excellent cycle characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The negative electrode active material includes at least one boride expressed by MB<SB>2</SB>(M is Al, Mg, Ti, Ta, Zr, Np, Nb, Pu, Sc, Sm, Tb, U, V, Tm, Y, Yb, Mo, Mn, Lu, Hf, Fe, Gd, Er, Dy, Cr, Au, or Ag).
