PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-temperature superconducting current lead exhibiting resistance against external stress and expansion or contraction due to heat cycle, capable of increasing critical current density and connecting a terminal, while suppressing damage on a high-temperature superconductor, and to provide a method that increases the critical current density of a high-temperature superconducting current lead. SOLUTION: The high-temperature superconducting current lead 8 comprises a flexible tape-shaped high-temperature superconductor 8a, coated with a metal film and having a thin film of a high-temperature superconductive material formed on the surface of a base material, a pair of electrode terminals 11, and a support member 14 secured to the electrode terminal 11 and reinforcing the high-temperature superconductor 8a, wherein the c-axis of crystal of the high-temperature superconductive material is oriented at a predetermined angle for the surface of the base material. The method for increasing the critical current density forms a high-temperature superconducting current lead, having a thin film where the c-axis of crystal of the high-temperature superconductive material, is oriented by a predetermined angle for the normal to the surface of the base material, and applies the magnetic flux of a magnetic field in the direction of intersecting the c-axis of crystal or the base material at an perpendicular angle.
