PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a high-density stainless steel having density of at least 7.3 g/cm<SP>3</SP>. SOLUTION: A composition containing 0.1 to 2 wt.% lubricant in a water atomized stainless steel powder of an irregular shape is subjected to high speed compression by uniaxial pressurization motion at a die speed exceeding 2 m/sec using a lubricated die to obtain a formed body having density of at least 7.2 g/cm<SP>3</SP>. The formed body is sintered in a vacuum or hydrogen atmosphere or inert atmosphere at least at 1,120 to 1,300°C. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
