PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder for a heat developable photosensitive material which does not adversely affect image formation, produces a heat developable photosensitive material free of the degradation of image characteristics, and hardly generates a foul odor during handling. SOLUTION: The binder for a heat developable photosensitive material is obtained from polyvinyl butyral resin pellets, wherein the polyvinyl butyral resin pellets are obtained by melting polyvinyl butyral resin powder and have a butylaldehyde and 2-ethyl-2-hexenal content of≤100 ppm.
