PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for knitting a knitted fabric, by which holes are small and the expansion of the holes can be prevented in a connection portion for connecting a front side knitted fabric to a rear side knitted fabric to give a beautiful finished product, in a portion where a knitting width is increased, and to provide a flat knitted fabric. SOLUTION: This method for knitting the knitted fabric includes: alternately holding a knitting yarn with the knitting needles of each knitting bed from the side end of the knitted fabric toward the outside so as to form twist stitches on the knitting needles of one needle bed and also form cross stitches on the knitting needles of the other needle bed, among knitting needles disposed on the outsides of knitting needles holding knitting stitches at the side end of the knitted fabric or holding knitting stitches adjacent to the insides of the knitting stitches of the side end, knitting the yarn in a knitting yarn portion held by the cross stitch-forming knitting needles from the outside to the side end to form setup stitches, knitting the yarn in a knitting yarn portion held by cross stitch-forming knitting needles from the outside to the side end to form setup stitches, and then knitting stitches for the next and later stitches on the setup stitches to increase a knitting width.
