PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of remarkably improving the strength of a closed cell metal foam, such as aluminum foam without using a laminating material and the like by a relatively simple method because the strength of the closed cell metal foam is higher than the strength of an open cell metal foam but is extremely inferior to the strength of the dense material of the same metal and therefore, the industrial applications thereof are limited and the development of the high-strength closed cell metal foam is desired. SOLUTION: The method strengthens the foamed metal compact having the closed cells to enhance the compressive strength of the compact composed of the metal foam without laminating a reinforcing material on the surface by filling a thermosetting or thermoplastic resin in a fluid state into open cellular portions of a surface part of the cut-processed compact of the metal foam having the closed cells and hardening the resin to be bonded to the cell walls of the open cells.
