The device (S) has a input recording image information (I-K1) captured by a black-and-white camera (K1) e.g. complementary metal oxide semiconductor camera, aligned in forward direction of a motor vehicle (I). An input records image information (I-K2) captured by a color camera (K2) aligned in backwards direction of the vehicle. A determination unit determines roadway limits e.g. road marking of specific color, using the both image information. The determination unit verifies a validity of the detected roadway limit based on the information (I-K2). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for operating a driver assistance system for a vehicle (2) a computer program product comprising instructions for operating a driver assistance system for a vehicle.
