A search engine for constructing index data and a method thereof are provided to reflect new web documents created in a period for constructing the index data by periodically crawling the web documents with a sub crawler and a sub indexer, and offer a correct search result to a user by reflecting the index data for the new web document in real-time. A sub crawler(227) crawls new web documents generated for a construction period. A sub indexer(226) makes the index data from the crawled web documents and adds the index data to the stored index data. The sub crawler crawls the new web document generated in real-time during the construction period based on stored seed data. Each web document database(221,223) classifies and stores the corresponding web documents according to the index data. The construction period is started at a time point for starting the crawling of the web document and is finished at the time point for extracting the index data from the web document and replacing the stored index data with the extracted index data.
