<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas generator enabling inexpensive manufacturing, easy and highly accurate positioning in relation to a cylindrical member of a filter and striking a balance between improvement of assemblability and securing of product performance. <P>SOLUTION: This cylinder type gas generator 1A is provided with a long cylindrical member 10 including a combustion chamber 17 stored with gas producing agent 52 and a filter chamber 18 stored with the filter 53 therein, a disc-shaped partition plate 15 for sectioning the combustion chamber 17 and the filter chamber 18, and a closing member 20 for closing an opening end of the cylindrical member 10. The filter 53 has a hollow opening part 53a extending in the same direction as a shaft direction of the cylindrical member 10. The one end part is fixed to the closing member 20 by inserting a projecting part 22 provided in the closing member 20 in a hollow opening part 53a of the filter 53.
