PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device element capable of suppressing disturbance in the control of liquid crystal molecules composing a driving liquid crystal layer near a seal part even when the element is integrated into a liquid crystal display device and capable of effectively suppressing the generation of display irregularity.

SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device element 1 is used for a liquid crystal display device wherein a driving liquid crystal layer capable of changing the alignment of liquid crystal according to an applied electric field is formed between a pair of substrates and a seal part for sealing a liquid crystal composition composing the driving liquid crystal layer into a space between the pair of substrates is formed, and comprises a base material 2 having light permeability and a phase difference layer 4 composed of a liquid crystal material containing liquid crystal molecules having a polymerizable functional group. The phase difference layer 4 has an area to be overlapped with at least a part of the seal part in the thickness direction of the phase difference layer 4 as a seal part corresponding area and a coat layer 5 for coating the phase difference layer 4 is formed on a prescribed portion including the seal part corresponding area on the surface of the phase difference layer 4.
