PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a file name acquisition unit with a simple configuration, for handling, as a file name, a character string obtained by adding an extension to a file name having the acquired number of characters when the file name exceeds the number of characters capable of acquisition, without opening the file. SOLUTION: The file name acquisition unit includes a memory 2 for storing and managing a music data file by a file system, a DSP 9 for acquiring a long file name and a short file name from the above file system, and a system microcomputer 15 having limitation in the number of characters to be acquired. From a long file name, the system microcomputer 15 acquires the number of characters capable of acquisition by the system microcomputer 15, and controls to handle as file name the character string obtained by adding a character string of the extension, acquired from the short file name, to the acquired character string.
