PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer without the risk of generating printing irregularities, even when a non-printing state is continued for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The printer has a switching means for switching a printable state where the cylindrical surface of a developing roll comes into contact with the cylindrical surface of a photoreceptive drum and a standby state where the cylindrical surface of the developing roll is separated from the cylindrical surface of the photoreceptive drum. Further, the switching means may have such a configuration that the cylindrical surface of an intermediate transfer roll and the cylindrical surface of the photoreceptive drum are brought into contact with each other, in the printable state and the cylindrical surface of the transfer roll is separated from the photoreceptive drum, in the standby state.
