To facilitate adjustment of control characteristics of components that form an electric power steering device, particularly, components that have a variation in their characteristics. A data writing device adapted for an electric power steering device that has a steering assistance mechanism for generating steering assistance force for a steering system and also has a control device for controlling the steering assistance mechanism. The data writing device has nonvolatile data storage means (41) for storing characteristics data of desired structural components of the steering system, the steering assistance mechanism, and the control device, and the data writing device also has data writing means (43) which, when the structural components are assembled together, writes the characteristics data stored in the nonvolatile data storage means (41) into a nonvolatile storage section of the control device.
