PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-free, oil-based forging lubricant composition which enables small amount spraying, additionally a forging method which achieves reduction of the variability of the quality of forged articles, an improvement in production efficiency and prolongation of the life of a mold, and the improvement of the working environment, and a coating apparatus. SOLUTION: The oil-based forging lubricant has a flash point in the range of 70-170°C and a kinematic viscosity at 40°C of 4-40 mm<SP>2</SP>/s and does not contain water and an emulsifier.
