Solar energy collector - formed from extruded plastic sheet with passages for heat transfer medium

Solar energy collector consists of a radiator and a cover which is transparent to radiation. The individual constructional elements are extruded profiles. At least one of the extended constructional elements has projections along the edge. The collector is provided with a housing of extruded, transparent material e.g. of plastic. The housing has passages through it for the heat transfer liquid to flow through. A material to absorb the radiant energy is provided in these passages. This is introduced as a thin film and forms blackened elements in the passages. Freely suspended black particles can be used in the liquid. Used for recovering solar energy. The unit avoids many of the sealing problems associated with some collectors. They can be produced in a single operation and the whole length of the roof can be covered without a joint. They are cheap to produce and easy to mount in a watertight fashion.
