TRUST MANAGER AND METHOD FOR ENHANCED PROTECTION AGAINST SPAM

A method and apparatus for enhanced filtering of emails in particular to prevent dissemination of spam is described. The method relies on a distributed trust system, based on collaboration between separate mail transfer agents, to establish a trust level for different mail server nodes. The trust level is based on the mail transfer agents' experience of mail coming from that node. The trust level is then shared between the different mail transfer agents, and a composite trust level is then used to adjust how email coming from that node is processed by the system.
