The method involves producing a card body (2) with a two-dimensional recess, and applying a label on the card body in a region of the recess. The recess is hollowed during manufacturing of the card body. The recess is subsequently formed in a manufactured semi-finished part of the card body, and the card body is manufactured by injection techniques. The card body is manufactured by lamination of several foils. Lateral dimensions of the card body conform to International organization for standardization 7810 standard. The label is designed as a safety label. An independent claim is also included for a card-shaped data carrier.
