A hydraulic pressure intensifier has a small-diameter piston (6) coupled to a larger-diameter low-pressure piston (5) with intensifying piston (4) moving within a housing (1). A valve (13) regulates the position taken by the intensifying piston such that on reaching the reversal point the intensifying piston direction of travel is altered to maintain a continual increase in pressure. On surpassing the switch threshold a second valve (16) raises the pressure during the period when the high pressure is lower than the supply pressure.
