PLASMA DISPLAY, AND DRIVING METHOD THEREOF

A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided to suppress an afterimage or an image blur by preventing self-erase discharge. One frame is divided into plural sub-fields in a PDP(Plasma Display Panel) having discharge cells. A screen load ratio is calculated from plural image signals during one frame(S410). The overall number of sustain pulses during the frame is determined according to the calculated screen load ratio(S430). Scan pulses are allocated to the sustain period in the respective sub-fields from the overall number of the sustain pulses(S440). A ratio between an overlap sustain pulse and a non-overlap sustain pulse is determined from the calculated screen load ratio(S450). The sustain pulses are aligned into overlap and non-overlap sustain pulses according to the determined ratio(S460). When the screen load ratio increases, the ratio between the overlap and non-overlap sustain pulses is increased.
