SIGNAL INPUT DETECTING DEVICE FOR DETECTING WHETHER THERE IS OPTICAL SIGNAL INPUT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect whether there is a signal input at an input terminal of an optical device such as an optical amplifier in an as easy method as possible and to suitably control the operation of the optical device according to the detection result.

SOLUTION: A first monitor means 101 monitors the intensity of input light and outputs a first monitor signal indicative of the input light intensity. A second monitor means 102 monitors the intensity of an AC component of the input light and outputs a second monitor signal indicative of the AC intensity. A discrimination means 103 discriminates whether the input light contains signal light by using the first monitor signal and second monitor signal. The optical device is controlled according to the discrimination result.
