PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traveling safety device for a vehicle performing contact avoidance assistant control for giving steering torque when it is determined that there is a possibility of contact with an object and correcting its control amount according to a presumed steering characteristic of a driver. SOLUTION: The traveling safety device for the vehicle is provided with (S16-S38) a contact possibility determination means (S14) for determining a possibility of contact with the detected object; and a contact avoidance assistant control performing means for performing contact avoidance assistant control for giving the steering torque to assist the contact avoidance when it is determined that there is a possibility of contact with the detected object. A control amount of the contact avoidance assistant control is calculated (S32), the calculated control amount is corrected based on the presumed steering characteristic of the driver (S34), and the contact avoidance assistant control is performed based on the corrected control amount (S36).
