PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for monitoring a track abnormality due to occurrence of an earthquake etc. within a predetermined section by using a wiring arranged along a track. SOLUTION: In this track abnormality monitoring device, a tension sensor 20 is attached to a wire rope 6 connected to a terminal of the wiring 1. A control device 21 determines whether or not tension detected by the tension sensor 20 is caused by an earthquake, bringing about danger to the track. When the danger is determined to occur, this is informed a motorman and displayed and/or a signal is transmitted to an electric power transmission circuit breaker 19 to block electric power transmission to a trolley wire 2. Upper ends of wire poles 11 erected in the region hit by the earthquake are largely oscillated like a pendulum, along with oscillation of roots of the wire poles 11. When the upper ends of the wire poles 11 are oscillated, tension of the wiring 1 arranged between the wire poles 11 with tension is changed.
