A method and an apparatus for displaying an overlay screen for a navigation apparatus are provided to enable a user to detect a current position by displaying a magnified screen without hiding a current-position mark. An apparatus for displaying an overlay screen for a navigation apparatus includes an electronic map memory(7), a speed sensor(2), a gyro sensor(3), and a microcomputer(1). The microcomputer includes an overlay screen processor(1b) and an overlay screen processor module(10a). The overlay screen processor processes an overlay screen to be displayed on a map screen with a current-position mark according to a setting input signal from a user. The overlay screen is generated by using aviation picture data. The overlay screen processor module is controlled by the overlap screen processor. The overlap screen is displayed on a specific area of the screen except for the current-position mark of the vehicle.
