An apparatus for receiving mobile service data and a control method thereof are provided to insert a known data to a specific location of a data area and transmit data to a mobile receiver system, thereby improving the reception performance of the mobile receiver system even in environment that there is an excessive change of a channel. A group formatter(304) receives mobile service data from a block processor. Transmitting parameters are inputted to the group formatter after passing through at least one of a data randomizing process, an RS frame encoding process, and a block processing process or are inputted to the group formatter without passing through all of the three processes. The transmitting parameters include information necessary to receive and process data included into a data group. The group formatter inserts the mobile service data and the transmitting parameters to a corresponding area in the data group according to a rule forming the data group.
