A cantle plate (22), determining the size of the cantle (25) in its extent towards the rear and/or to the sides, is placed onto the rear cantle part of the saddle-tree and fastened thereon. The cantle plate (22) extends forwards over approximately two thirds of the length of the saddle-tree (21), is designed to be thin-walled and is produced from an elastic material. Since the cantle plate rests, and is fastened, only with its front edge region (23) on the saddle-tree curve (29) and with its back, rearwardly directed reinforced cantle-plate edge (24) on the back edge of the cantle (25) of the saddle-tree (21), a flat cavity (28), into which the cantle plate (22) can be resiliently deflected, is obtained between the surface (26) of the saddle-tree (21), beneath the cantle plate (22), and the underside (27) thereof. The spring properties of the saddle-tree, e.g. produced from plastic, correspond to those of a conventionally braced spring saddle-tree. <IMAGE>
