The switch has a main contact point (11) and a switchgear (21) opening the main contact point and switching a main flow path (18) running via the main contact point during a normal operation, when the current flow length of time is larger than a rated current for which the switch is designed. The switchgear has a latching point, where the switch is additionally installed for an operating mode of a base current cut-off. The cut-off takes place already in the operating mode upon reaching a base current strength, which is lower than a rated current strength of the switch.
