PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and easily carry out the adjustment of displacement of horizontal and vertical joints of two light beams. SOLUTION: The image forming device joints two light beams on a photosensitive body and scanning separately in the horizontal direction, and has a synchronous detection means detecting a reference position of a light beam in accordance with the light beam, a light beam lighting means lighting up dots from the synchronous detection means to an image writing position and moving the dot lighting position and the image writing position, and a means to detect the positions of lit dots, determines one light beam image writing position at a specific position, and adjusts the lighting positions of other image writing positions from the connection of two light beams. When the value after adjustment falls short of a predetermined value, the lighting position of the light beam image writing position previously determined is changed in association with the position after the adjustment of the light beam of the latter, and adjusts again the lighting position of the light beam writing position of the latter from the state of connection of the light beams.
