PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a square or an oval flat shaped battery in which an airtight property equal to that of a coin shaped battery is retained by improving structure of a battery sealing part. SOLUTION: This is a flat shaped battery in which a metal case serving as one of electrode terminals and a metal sealing plate serving as the other terminal are fitted via an insulation gasket, sealed by carrying out a caulking process, inside of which power generation elements composed of at least a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator and an electrolyte are contained, and an outer peripheral shape worked with the caulking are joined by an nearly circular arc at, at least, two sides of linear parts and the end part of respective sides. The flat shaped battery superior in reliability can be provided by forming the shapes of the metal case carrying out the caulking process at its straight part and the insulation gasket so as to be outwardly bent beforehand, and by enhancing the sealing property of the battery by compressing the bent part inwardly in the caulking process to make it linear.
