The surgical instrument has an inflatable component served by a medium delivered by a pipe incorporating a pilot balloon. The balloon (9) comprises two sheets of material (10) or thin plates, in contact with each other and sealed together airtight along the periphery. One or both of the sheets or plates distorts under the inflation pressure inside the balloon, which is connected to the inflation pipe (7), thus reacting to pressure in the latter. The instrument can be a catheter, the inflatable component being a sleeve fitting round the catheter stem, while the inflation pipe is in two parts, one fixed to one of the sheets and discharging inside the balloon. |
