The invention relates to managing multiple digital identifies of a user and selecting a relevant user digital identity when communicating with an entity such as a website. An identity manager obtains an identity policy of an entity through an interface and identifies at least one relevant user identity from multiple stored digital identities, each relevant identity including information required by the identity policy. A relevant identity is then obtained, e.g. by user selection, and the identity manager provides a representation of the selected identity that complies with the policy to the entity. The identity manager may translate a first representation of the selected identity to a representation that complies with the policy. It may also create at least one alternative representation to create a plurality of representations. For example, a given identity may include a user profile to be used for form filing and the identity manager may use the profile to create a self managed token-based identity such as a self-managed card in CardSpace. For the case of several representations, the representation designated as the most secure may be provided to the entity. |
