<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always obtain a high-quality image by making the prevention of peeling offset compatible with the prevention of tailing in an image forming apparatus equipped with a fixing device 13 having 1st and 2nd fixing members 50 and 51 forming a fixing nip part N and holding and feeding recording material 19 on which an unfixed toner image is electrostatically carried by the nip part N so as to fix the unfixed toner image on the recording material, and having voltage applying means 52 to 54 applying bias in timing with the passage of the recording material 19 near either the 1st or the 2nd fixing member 50 or 51 or the nip. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a means 48 for detecting the trailing edge of the fed recording material 13.
