<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a noncontact recording medium reader capable of reading information accurately even when a noncontact recording medium with a deviated magnetic field distribution is used. <P>SOLUTION: The reader comprises an antenna electromagnetically coupled to an inserted noncontact IC card for performing communication and a judging means for judging whether the magnetic field intensity received with the antenna belongs to 'high', 'intermediate' or 'low'. When the magnetic field intensity is judged to be 'high' by the judging means, communication with the noncontact IC card is performed and the information read from the card is outputted to a host device. When the magnetic field intensity is judged to be 'low', the noncontact IC card is judged to be unavailable and then returned. When the magnetic field intensity is judged to be 'intermediate', insertion of the noncontact IC card in the reverse direction is instructed. When the magnetic field intensity turns to be 'high' as a result of insertion of the card in the reverse direction, normal communication then can be performed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
