A card reader for an ATM(Automated Teller Machine) is provided to enable a user to recognize that an illegal matter is attached to a front side of the card reader of the ATM by preventing the illegal matter from being attached to the card reader with a simple structure. A card receiver(110) receives or discharges a card(C). A header(120) reads information stored in a magnetic stripe(M) formed on the card at one side of the card receiver. A projected part(111) is formed to a front side of the card receiver on the same horizontal line as the header along a card insertion direction. The projected part is tilted at an angle based on a horizontal surface of the card receiver, and a sensor for detecting an illegal matter is combined to the projected part.
