A safety valve or 'kelly valve' assembly includes a first tubular body 12 and a second tubular body 14, each having flow bores 16 and 18 therein, and a rotating ball valve 20. The second body 14 is modified to receive connecting members 50 and an outer actuator sleeve 40. The actuator sleeve 40 is rotatable with respect to the first and second bodies. The connecting member 50 acts between the actuator sleeve 40 and ball valve 20 to open and close the valve. The connecting member 50 includes axially extending fingers 51 which move axially to rotate the ball valve 20 in response to rotation of the sleeve via engaging threads 42 and 44 on the actuator sleeve and connector respectively. The ball valve 30 rotates between open and closed position in a first seat 30 and a centering member 32. |
