The invention relates to feed additives, for ruminants, having a content of one or more non-protein nitrogen material(s), in particular urea, and starch and one or more swellable clay mineral(s), in which the non-protein nitrogen material or materials respectively is or are present together with the following materials a) 5 to 75% by weight of starch, if required composed of at least 10% by weight of gelatinised starch, b) 2 to 25% by weight of swellable clay mineral(s) and/or cement and c) 1 to 35% by weight of one or more phosphatide(s), the above amounts of a), b) and c) each being based on the total of the amounts of a), b) and c), the weight fraction of the total of the amounts of a), b) and c) being 20 to 98% by weight, based on the complete product in the dry state. The invention also relates to a process for the production of these feed additives. These feed additives are appetising, do not lead to any symptoms of toxicity in the animals even at high non-protein nitrogen material contents and enable easily hydrolysable proteins to be administered in any desired amounts. |
