A method and an apparatus for correcting image tilting for a video phone mode are provided to acquire positive direction information of a camera of a transmitting terminal using an acceleration sensor and correct display image data of an object, displayed on a display unit of a receiving terminal, into a positive direction state in which an image corresponding to the display image data is not tilted based on the positive direction information. Original image data of an object, captured by a camera, is received(400). A tilting degree of the camera is recognized(420). The original image data is corrected according to the recognized tilting degree to generate display image data(440). The display image data is transmitted to a receiving terminal(450). An image region corresponding to the object or an image region having a default size is generated from the original image data. The generated image region is rotated according to the tilting degree to generate the display image data.
