A method of comparing digital moving image similarities using moving image DNA and a system using the method are provided to reduce computing power required to search large-capacity moving image data and a time required to process search inquiries to improve search quality. A digital moving image is divided into shots. Characteristics of the divided shots are extracted and moving image DNA is constructed using the extracted characteristics. The moving image DNA is compared to moving image DNA stored in a moving image database according to a similar sequence comparing method.
