The subject of the invention is a coin tester having at least one coin run-through channel provided with checkpoints, having an acceptance channel and having a rejection channel. In order reliably to achieve an acceptance of coins of predetermined diameter, according to the invention a component penetrates into the coin run-through channel by means of a sensing element, of which the distance from the running track is marginally smaller than the diameter of a permissible coin, and a deflector, in such a way that a deflection of the sensing element out of the desired position, caused only by a coin of permissible diameter, entails or allows a movement of the deflector for opening the coin run-through channel. <IMAGE>
