The device has a by-pass duct (2) for by-passing an exhaust gas between an exhaust duct (3) and an intake duct (4) of an internal combustion engine (1). The by-pass duct has a valve (22) arranged downstream of a heat exchanger (21) of the by-pass duct, relative to circulation directions of exhaust gases in the by-pass duct, where the by-pass duct has another valve (23) arranged upstream of the heat exchanger. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an exhaust gas recycling device.
