An apparatus for providing a message reading confirmation service and a method using the same are provided to transmit a message not including reading confirmation settings to a called terminal and notify a caller that a reading confirmation service can not be provided to the called terminal when the called terminal can not perform a reading confirmation alarm function, thereby removing inconvenience that the caller waits for a receiver to confirm the transmitted message. A reading confirmation service server(600) comprises a receiving unit(610), a storage unit(630), a receiver authentication unit(620), a reading confirmation unavailable processor(640), a reading confirmation processor(650), and a transmitting unit(660). The receiving unit is connected to a message service center to receive a message to which reading confirmation reception is set from the message service center and receive a reading confirmation alarm, which a received terminal transmits, from the message service center. The storage unit stores information about cases to which a reading confirmation service can not be applied. The receiver authentication unit requests the subscriber authentication server of the called terminal, to which the reading confirmation service is requested, to authenticate a receiver, and receives a receiver response in response to the receiver authentication. The reading confirmation unavailable processor generates a service unavailable alarm message for notifying a calling terminal that the reading confirmation service is unavailable when the receiver authentication unit determines that the called terminal can not provide reading confirmation to the calling terminal, and releases reading confirmation receiving settings in a message which the calling terminal transmits. |
