A strain Escherichia coli К12 "inv" sbA producing the recombinant non-active subunit A of diphtheria toxin of Corynebacterium diphtheriae hybridized with polyhistidine tag was developed with the aid of gene engineering. The productivity of the strain is about 15 mg of the end product per 1 L of cell suspension. The product can be isolated as the electrophoretically pure protein by metal affine chromatography.
